Barcelona achieved a hard-fought victory over its guest team, Getafe, with a clean goal, in the match that was held between them on Sunday evening at the Camp Nou stadium, in the 18th round of the Spanish Premier League championship.
After the match, Xavi talked about his assessment of the performance of his players and the reason for the absence of Araujo and De Jong, replacing Christensen and Baldi, and explained his previous statements about the Danny Alves case.
The Catalan coach said in the press conference after the match: “We did not play a great match. We kept our nets clean, but it was not our best match. We felt psychologically tired, but in the end we won despite the modest performance.”
And about the performance of Ansu Fati, who played the whole match: “Fati played a good match, today it was difficult to find him as he relied more on the wings, we had to penetrate from the sides. Ansu was good and did his duties. Sometimes he misses the final touch. It’s a matter of reconciliation.”
And about the reason for replacing Baldi and Christensen: “Baldi was good, but we inserted Alba in order to enter the depth to give the decisive pass. Christensen suffered some discomforts and we exchanged him. Baldi is fine, the change was only tactical.”
On the reason for the absence of Araujo and De Jong, Xavi said: “We preferred to rest them.”
And about Ravenha’s anger during his switch: “All confidence in Ravenha, if he is angry, that is normal. I think he gets more angry with himself than with change. Everyone wants to be good and is very well prepared. He works every day to achieve good things.”
On the brilliance of Ter Stegen: “We have been watching the best version of Ter Stegen for a long time. He has tremendous confidence. He is happy. Made the difference today with a great save, individually amazing. I am very happy for him.”
Regarding his previous statements regarding Dani Alves, who was arrested for rape, Xavi wanted to explain them: “Yesterday I misinterpreted what I said about Dani Alves. It is important to explain. It’s a very horrific subject, but yesterday I avoided talking about the victims. I was not successful. All of these types of actions should be condemned. Whether in violence against women or in violations, I apologize to the victim and the victims of violence against women.”
He added, “I was surprised that Elvis was able to do all this. I understand the criticism against me (about yesterday’s statement) and I apologize.”
